Şehir şebeke suyunun arıtılarak içme suyu olarak kullanılabilir hale getirilmesi için kullanılan cihazlara evsel su arıtma cihazı denmektedir. Giderek kullanımı yaygınlaşan evsel su arıtma cihazları az maliyet ile konut ve işyerleri için uygun maliyette ve pratik içme suyu sağlar. Su arıtma cihazlarının nitelik, kapasite, kalite, kullanım kolaylığı açısından muhtelif çeşitleri bulunmaktadır. Kişi sayısını göre evsel su arıtma cihazının kapasitesi ve tank hacmi belirlenir. Şebeke suyunda mevcut kirletici unsurlara göre kullanılacak arıtma teknolojisine karar verilir. Evsel su arıtma cihazlarında en güvenilir arıtma teknolojisi Ters Ozmoz ( Reverse Osmosis) teknolojisidir. 

Ters Ozmoz teknolojisi sayesinde şebeke suyunda insan sağlığına olumsuz etki edebilecek tüm zararlı çözünmüş maddelerin tutulması mümkündür. Endüstriyel su arıtma cihazları Evsel su arıtma cihazlarında Ters Ozmoz membran filtrelerin yanı sıra partikül tutucu filtreler, kötü tat, kötü koku, klor giderimi için aktif karbon filtreler ve içme amaçlı kullanım için gerekli minerallerin suya eklenebilmesi için mineral filtreler kullanılır. Evsel su arıtma cihazlarının boyutlarının küçük olması ve kompakt yapıda olması sebebiyle mutfak tezgahının alt kısmında kullanımı mümkündür. Aynı zamanda eğer mevcut ise su sebilleri ile birlikte de kullanılabilir. 

Restoran su arıtma cihazları Evsel su arıtma cihazının bakımı kolay ve az maliyetlidir. Yetkili ve konusunda uzman kişiler tarafından düzenli olarak bakımı yapılan cihazlar daha uzun ömürlü olmakla beraber kullanılan cihazın ürettiği içme suyunun kalitesi değişmeden her zaman aynı kalitede su içimini mümkün kılmaktadır. Cihazlarda kullanılan filtrelerin değişim periyotları vardır ve kirlenmiş olan filtreler el ile temizlenerek yeniden kullanıma uygun değildir. Evsel su arıtma cihazları açık kasalı (eski tip) veya kapalı kasalı (yeni tip) olarak üretilerek kullanıma sunulmaktadır. Kapalı kasa sistemlerde arıtma tankı cihaz kasasının içerisinde yer almaktadır. Şebeke basıncının yetersiz olduğu yerlerde mutlaka dahili pompalı su artıma cihazları kullanılmalıdır. Evsel su arıtma cihazlarında kullanılan filtrelerin kalitesi oldukça önemlidir. Filtre kalitesi düşük cihazlarda su filtre edilebilse bile, gıdaya uygun olup olmadığı mutlaka araştırılmalıdır. Bu konuda gerekli sertifikalara sahip olan ürünler tercih edilmelidir.
